Adopting with Soar

At SOARescue Nashville, we take pride in finding the best homes for the animals in our care. Many factors are taken into account when placing a pet. Our goal is to make sure that we are finding the best fit for both the animal and the adopter(s) with the hopes that this will be that animals' last transition.

We do our very best to provide as much information as possible on each animals' disposition, temperament, health and what we feel would be the best home for them to thrive. As potential adopters we ask that you carefully consider these things as well as the time and financial obligation you will take on when you adopt a new family member.

If you feel you are not ready for the 10-20 year commitment, but are still wanting to have a pet; please consider fostering. Click the link below to apply to be a part of our Foster Family!

Apply to FOSTER

Before you get started please make sure of the following:

  • You are at least 21 years of age
  • You can provide valid proof of identification
  • You have checked your HOA/Lease for any restrictions (# of pets, breed or weight)
  • All members of your household are on board with bringing a new pet in your home

THe adoption process

  1. Submit an application for the pet you are interested in. Our pets are listed on our website, on PetFinder and our Facebook page. You can also apply using this link : https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/foster/SFP/Dog  Please make sure to put the name of the animal that you are applying to adopt.
  2. Once your application is received, our Adoption Coordinators will contact you via phone or email; typically within 72 hours to arrange a time for the Initial Interview. Note: if there is an end date listed in their bio, then please do not expect to be contacted before that date.
  3. Adoption Coordinator will perform initial interviews. This interview helps us determine if you and the particular pet are a match. If yes, we move on to the next step. If not, we will let you know. We also will determine if we have another animal that is a match.
  4. If we feel that you are a good match, then we will begin the reference checks.  These include veterinarian checks as well as personal reference checks. If all goes well, then we move on to the next step. (If there are multiple applications, we will take the time to determine who we feel is the best fit and move forward with that applicant)
  5. We arrange a meet and greet, typically at a neutral location. If there are current pets in the household, we will arrange a second meet with your pets.. If all goes well then we move on to the last and final step!
  6. We begin a 2 week Foster to Adopt, also known as trial, period. During this time, we will provide you with any supplies you need. Your Foster Coordinator will be in contact during this time to make sure that you guys are getting any and all the support you need! Our goal is to finalize your adoption by the end of 2 weeks, however we can be flexible in certain situations.

Important Information

  • Please note that we cannot schedule meet and greets without an application AND application review.
  • If you have additional questions, specific to an adoptable animal, you can reach out to their Adoption Coordinator. Their email will be listed in the bio for the animal.
  • We can keep applications on file, however it is not always possible for us to "find" your perfect fit. If you are not selected for one animal, but see another, please email info@soarnash.org to let us know.  You do not need to fill out another application.
  • We do our best to keep everyone informed on where we are in the process. Please refrain from repeated emails as it takes us time to respond, making the process longer.
